Sewer Main Improvements

Bellows Falls, VT

The Village of Bellows Falls was planning for water main improvements on several streets throughout the Village.  In some of these areas, it was identified that the existing sewer mains would be significantly damaged during water main construction.  In addition, the existing sewer mains were all vitrified clay with known deficiencies.  Based on the existing condition of the sewer mains and the upcoming water improvements, the Village decided to add sewer main replacement to the water projects.

 

Dufresne Group prepared a Preliminary Engineering Report for the sewer improvements and updated the plans and specifications for the water projects to include sewer main replacements.  Dufresne Group also provided construction phase engineering services for all projects.

 

The improvements were designed as three separate construction projects.  The following projects were completed:

 

  • Chase/Hadley/Oak Streets (1,100 lf) – 2017

    • Total Project Cost Estimate $377,500

    • Completed Total Project Cost $266,995

    • Funded by CWSRF

  • Burt/Blake/Park Streets (2,420 lf) – 2019

    • Total Project Cost Estimate $807,900

    • Completed Total Project Cost $759,512

    • Funded by USDA RD

  • Mill Street (750 lf) – 2019

    • Total Project Cost Estimate $412,500

    • Completed Total Project Cost $381,273

    • Funded by USDA RD

Key Features

  • Funded by CWSRF loan with a $94,375 grant and by USDA Rural Development loan with a $441,000 grant.

  • Replacement of over 4,270 lf of sewer main on 8 different streets through 3 separate projects.

  • All sewer projects were also coordinated with water main replacements.

  • Construction on the first sewer project began in 2017 and all projects were completed in summer of 2020.

  • DG provided preliminary, final design and construction phase engineering services, as well as funding assistance.
