UNION STREET PUMP STATION UPGRADE
WINDSOR, VERMONT

Proposed Improvements Plan

The Union Street Pump Station was constructed in 1965 with a single pump to serve 170 customers in the residential area off Route 131. The pump operated continuously for over 40 years. The fluid drive pump allowed for constant pressure over a wide range of demand. However, the pump operated very inefficiently similar to an automatic automotive transmission and 15 hp of electrical demand was required even when 1 hp of work was required. To comply with the Vermont Water Supply Regulations, the pump requires replacement with a duplex system to provide redundancy.

KEY FEATURES
  • Skid mounted package booster system containing (2) 7.5 hp pumps with VFDs, hydropneumatic tank, flowmeter, valves and controls.
  • The existing building dimensional restrictions required that after the system was factory assembled and tested it was disassembled, shipped to the site and reassembled in a new equipment pad inside the pump station.
  • Electric service replacement
  • Complete replacement of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Actual construction cost of $81,500 was below DG’s final design cost estimate.
