DG DISCUSSIONS WITH FIRE CHIEF TROY RUGGLES OF THE ST JOHNSBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Chad Whitehead and Red Dufresne of DG met with Chief Troy Ruggles on Monday August 1, discuss Spring Street. Chief Ruggles said that the current width and configuration of Spring Street has created issues for the Fire Department due to cars parked on Spring Street. He referred to the standards for new development set by the National Fire Protection Association, which requires a minimum width of 12 feet for each travel lane. Chief Ruggles stated that he is aware that the Town is not dealing with new development, and there are limitations that the Town needs to work with.
Chief Ruggles indicated that a 12 foot travel lane for emergency vehicles and 2 lanes, 8-feet each for vehicles to pull out of the way (for a total road width of 28 feet) would be acceptable for Spring Street.
