OLD STREET ROAD BOX CULVERT
PETERBOROUGH, NEW HAMPSHIRE
 Culvert Outlet
As part of 2008 water main improvements in Peterborough, New Hampshire, a new 4
foot by 7 foot precast concrete box culvert was constructed to replace a deteriorated
galvanized steel arch culvert. A 100 foot long portion of an existing water main was
temporarily removed to accommodate the installation of the new culvert. Due to the
new culvert’s lower profile the water main was able to be installed over the precast
structure with adequate depth of cover to avoid freezing. The work required coordination
with several Town departments including Fire, Police and Water to detour traffic on
the heavily traveled route to the Town’s Hospital and nearby attractions.
