Dufresne Group was awarded two Merit Awards for the 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies- Vermont. The first award was from the Environmental category. The project was for an innovative green stormwater infrastructure design and implementation project for the Oak Street drainage area in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, in collaboration with Stone Environmental. The Oak Street Area Water Sewer and Storm Improvements project is the first in Vermont to combine neighborhood-scale green infrastructure with “gray” infrastructure to reduce combined sewer overflow events.

The second award was from the Studies, Planning, Consulting Engineering Services category. The project was a preliminary engineering report for the Winooski Main Street revitalization project, in collaboration with VHB. The Winooski Main Street revitalization project is a transformational project involving a full reconstruction of the Main Street (US 2/7) corridor from the Colchester town line south to the bridge over the New England Central railroad (Bridge 151). The purpose of this project is to upgrade antiquated drinking water systems, sewer systems, and stormwater management and treatment practices and to improve the mobility and safety for all modes of transportation.

The Engineering Excellence Awards, created to commemorate outstanding examples of engineering excellence in projects completed in Vermont, were awarded to recipients whose projects were substantially complete and ready for use between January 2017 and December 2018. Recipients were judged on their ability to meet or exceed client needs, new applications of existing techniques, originality, and/or innovation, social or economic benefit, complexity, and technical value to the profession.
