BASIS OF DESIGN REPORT FOR
MINARDS POND SURFACE WATER TREATMENT
BELLOWS FALLS, VERMONT

The Bellows Falls Basis of Design Report,
completed by Robert E. Dufresne while at
Dufresne-Henry, is a comprehensive water
system planning document that contains the
results of:
- Overall system hydraulic evaluations.
- Pilot investigations and corrosion control
studies.
- In depth analysis and comparisons of pulsating
upflow clarifier/ABW filter treatment and
adsorption clarification/mixed media filtration.
The recommended treatment system, “Trident”
package absorption clarifiers/mixed media filters
were constructed as part of a total project completed
in 1991. The basis of design process
components are distinguished by their recommendation
prior to the Water Supply Rule
enactment.
KEY FEATURES
- Filter to waste provisions installed well in
advance of regulatory requirlements.
- First implementation of SCADA
technology for a Vermont water treatment
facility.
- Chlorine dioxide disinfection.
- “Trident” package unit filtration.
- Potassium permanganate and PAC for
taste and odor control.
